  First Casualty, by Ben Elton (mmeh)
  La Solitudine dei Numero Primi, by Paolo Giordano (highly recommend)
  Half a Life, by V.S. Naipaul, (also recommend)
  Chart Throb, by Ben Elton (beach reading, humorous moments).
  
  And I think something else by Michael Dibdin.
